Norma Pierzchala bio
October 15, 1927 – December 26, 2025
Norma Pierzchala passed away on December 26, 2025, at the age of 98. She was born in South Bend, Indiana, where she graduated from Adams High School.
Norma met her husband, Matthew Pierzchala, on his first day home from World War II at a bowling alley. They were married for 71 years, until his passing in 2018.
After holding various bookkeeping and service-related positions, Norma entered the U.S. Civil Service in the early 1980s as a typist for the federal government in Washington, D.C. She later enrolled at Northern Virginia Community College, where she studied accounting and advanced her career, earning a position as an accountant with the General Services Administration.
Outside of work, Norma’s great passion was the card game Bridge. She was an accomplished player, earning the rank of Gold Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. Even more, she was a dedicated ambassador for the game, enthusiastically introducing and teaching Bridge to anyone interested—whether at schools, clubs, or even in a mental health facility, where she used the game as a form of therapy for residents.
Norma also had a deep commitment to mentoring and encouraging young people, offering guidance and support to those she encountered throughout her life.
Norma is survived by her sons, Mark (Lesley), David (Diane), and Steve (Darla); her granddaughters, Anna, Esme, and Vita; and her grandson, Alex.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew, and her daughter, Ellen.
Norma will be buried alongside Matthew and Ellen at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C., where they were memorialized and laid to rest in August 2021.
Private service arrangements are pending.
