Candace Stewart Kuschner bio
Candace "Candy" Stewart was born September 26, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, less than a year before the end of World War II, and passed away August 7, 2026, in Reston, Virginia. She attended parochial schools before enrolling at the University of Michigan, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education. Her first marriage, to Thomas Boughner, who served in the Navy's nuclear submarine program, brought her to Virginia, where she would remain for the rest of her life.
Candy later married Marshall Kuschner, a longtime NVBA tournament director, and took his name. She is survived by her two sons, Tom (Susan) and Michael (Roxanne); five grandchildren, Grace, Luke, Connor, Kyle and Marc; one great-grandchild, Elora; and a brother, Jeff (Diane). She was preceded in death by Marshall.
Bridge was Candy's career and her passion. She earned ACBL Life Master status and worked as a tournament director for the American Contract Bridge League at events all over the country. Together with Marshall, she ran several bridge clubs and directed at every level of tournament play, a partnership that spanned more than three decades.
