The Northern Virginia Bridge Association is a non-profit organization, founded in 1961, whose goal is to promote bridge and support local bridge clubs. The NVBA, with 1400 to 1500 members, is Unit 218 of the American Contract Bridge League's District Six.
Among other activities the NVBA conducts a weekly Unit Game, sponsors four Sectional tournaments each year, hosts the annual July 4th Regional tournament in even numbered years, and co-hosts a North American Bridge Championship about once a decade. Annual NVBA events include the Unit finals of the flighted Grand National Teams and the North American Open Pairs tournaments.
The NVBA holds its annual meeting each May, at which new officers are elected. During the meeting, trophies are awarded to top masterpoint winners in Open, non-Life Master and Rookie categories. Also honored are the top NVBA members in each category of the ACBL's Mini-McKenney and Ace of Clubs competitions
The NVBA publishes a quarterly newsletter for and about its members, and in cooperation with the Washington Bridge League
