Tournament organizers have arranged for 100 parking places at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) parking garage at Connecticut and Van Ness. This garage is about 10 minutes away from the Marriot Wardman Park Hotel where all bridge events will be                      held.  Cost per day is $8 per vehicle. This facility will be open for your use until at least midnight every night during the Nationals. It appears that the gates are left open after that hour and you will be able to exit from the garage at any time, but players are urged to check with the attendant when entering and paying their fee to be sure on any given day that this will be the case.  The entrance to the garage is from Van Ness Street, in front of Building 44 (see map below).

Free shuttle buses, courtesy of the ACBL, will run from the UDC garage to the hotel beginning 90 minutes before the 1 p.m. game. The shuttle will return to the garage between sessions for those who wish to play only one session.  Buses will depart the hotel again in the evening beginning at 10:30 p.m.  The tentative schedule to the hotel and back again from this garage is from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., and 10:45-midnight.  Specific times each day will be posted on the bus window—be sure to take note!  The bus will bring you to and from the separate entrance to the hotel on 24th Street.  There will be signs inside the hotel to help you find your way to and from the playing sites.

Alternatively, players may choose to park at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel or Omni Shoreham garages where the daily rate is $19, with 24-hour access, no in-and-out privileges.  A substantial contribution from the Mid-Atlantic Bridge Conference (MABC) has allowed us to offer a $5 rebate on weekdays only to the cost of daily parking for commuters!  Once you pay the $19 upon entering one of the garages, bring your parking ticket to the main Information Desk area at the tournament.  We will stamp your ticket again with a special stamp and hand you $5 in scrip to help pay for your entry that day!  Hotel guests will be charged the $19 automatically on their room bills (unfortunately, no rebate is possible for hotel guests) unless they opt for free off-site parking (see above).  Again, see map below.

In addition, to help cut expenses, carpooling is strongly encouraged. On-site, informal matching of potential car pool participants will be available at bulletin boards placed near the Bridge Registration desk.  Advance arrangements for carpooling may be possible using the Bulletin Board on our NABC web site where you can sign up and create car pools among players the areas nearest you in Virginia, Maryland and the District.  This will continue to be available during the tournament so that you can look for “real-time” rides as well as try and schedule rides in advance.

There is very little parking available on the streets surrounding the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, as that area has been almost totally restricted for use by resident parking since 1993. However, this restriction is lifted on weekends, so be sure to arrive early enough on                      Saturdays and Sundays to look for street parking first, and then head off to one of the garages if you are unable to find parking on the street.  During weekdays, zone parking permits must be displayed in your vehicle—you cannot park on nearby streets without one—this is strictly enforced!

The metrorail Red Line runs right past the hotel and has often been know to stop at the Woodley Park/National Zoo stop which is located right across from the Marriott Wardman Park side entrance. The metro runs until midnight Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and                      Saturday night, which are the nights that most of the special entertainment will be held, the metro is open until 2:00 a.m. Up-to-date metro information will be available at the Bridge Information desk.
